DSC_0221Earlier this month, we were delighted to have a conversation with a great local pediatric dentist Dr. Candace Veneberg from Dental Associates for Kids Only. Faces Orthodontics works hand in hand with many local dentists to make sure that you and your family get the best treatment possible. Every dentist has unique tips and experiences that we think you will find interesting. In doing these types of blogs, we believe that you will learn more about the great dentists we have in our Scottsdale and Peoria communities. Without further ado, here is our interview with Dr. Candace Veneberg!

Let’s start off with an easy question… Where were you born?

I was born in a small town in Cozad, Nebraska. How small of a town is it? Less than 4000 people!

Do you have unique dental tips for your patients?

One thing that I have found helpful for my patients is new toothpaste called Plaque HD. The toothpaste shows you exactly where your brushing has missed the plaque on your teeth. If you brush that area again, the plaque will disappear! We find this toothpaste helpful for kids that don’t do a great job brushing.

Did you have any important mentors in your life that have helped guide you in your field?

One person that had a great impact on my career was Dr. Richard Cohen (during my time in the Army). Dr. Cohen recommended that I become a pediatric dentist. He was instrumental in me being where I am today! One other person that I looked up to when I was younger was my pediatric dentist Dr. Elizabeth Barr. When I was only 8 years old I remember thinking how cool her job was, and that I wanted to be a dentist when I grew up!

If someone was looking for a new pediatric dentist, why should they choose you?

I should have had my elevator pitch ready! What we do here at Dental Associates for Kids only is to make sure that everyone is treated like a member of the family. Our office is a fun, caring and energetic office. Come see what we’re about!

Where is the coolest place that you have traveled?

I’ve been fortunate to visit many beautiful places! My two favorites are the Chocolate Hills in the Philippines and the Blue Grotto in Italy.

What is your favorite thing about being a dentist?

Being a pediatric dentist is great! First off, I am able to help kids, and watch them grow. I enjoy kids feeling confident with their smiles. Finally, it’s rewarding to teach kids that they are in control of their smiles!

Do you have any tips for patients that are currently in braces?

Yes. It is so important to FLOSS EVERY DAY! I am also starting to recommend dry brushing your teeth (without toothpaste) to help remove plaque before toothpaste. When brushing your teeth, I recommend anti-cavity toothpaste that has fluoride in it like Clinpro 5000.

Are you involved with any charities or organizations?

One charity that I am passionate about is Autism Speaks. Our office enjoys doing the Autism walk as a team each year.

What motivates you?

My son! We love exploring with him. I am also motivated when I see a patient that was initially anxious and nervous, and now that patient is confident and relaxed when he/she comes into my office.
